The Civil War set the stage for many tales of bravery, especially the tide-turning decision by David Glasgow Farragut,
the U.S. Navy's first Admiral. During his attack on Confederate Fleet in Mobil bay, Farragut decisy advanced his ships through

issuing the most famous orders in U.S. Naval history:
"Damn the torpedoes! Full speed ahead!"
Having been a frequent visitor to Boston, sailing from our Navy yard as a young officer, The City of Boston erected a
statue honoring Admiral Farragut on August 14, 1895 at South Boston's Marine Park overlooking Boston Harbor and Castle Isalnd
